There it is! Someone nicked it and I found it up their drive.
Edit Apr 2016 – A friend reports that she spoke to an old lady at the property recently. She related that her grandfather had the tower transported (she doesn’t know when or how) to the present site when it had fallen out of use. He had a use for it for his nearby commercial greenhouses. (Further edits if and when possible.)

Hi Carrie. I heard it was to be found thereabouts but – not realising it was still on struts, I was gazing all over the fields for just the round top bit. I was just giving up when I looked upwards and the rest is history 🙂

Hi Kerry. We have a number of those round towers dotted around the coastline. They date back to the Napoleonic wars but were ultimately not needed. The old water tower preserved in that property there is a real curiosity – I only heard about it recently.

I had no idea that the old tower was that old – wow! You need to find out more about the water tower, is it still used, is it a carport? C’mon, you’re Irish – you can just walk up to the door and ask them!

Kerry I might try to figure out the story sometime. It’s been gone from the tower for at least 80 years though so maybe everyone forgot how it got there. I’ll try to get the answers.

It looked like the top part was made from wood so maybe in just disintegrated and wasn’t repaired if there was a better water source? Your mystery has me intrigued…:)

Haaa – this is a great post, Sherlock McCarthy 😀 It must have been a big heist to get it off that tower (heavier if it was full of water). I would love to have seen how they actually did it!
