Regular readers may recall the remarkable story of Jersey girl Nan Le Ruez, her Occupation diaries and how it worked out for her in the years afterwards. If not, please visit Part 1 of her story, and Part 2.
Happily Nan has now reached the age of 100 and apparently shows little sign of packing it all in yet. This is how her niece Sue reported the occasion in the local newspaper over the weekend.
Edit 2nd August 2016. I’m sad to record that the wonderful Nan Le Ruez passed away on Saturday 30th July 2016, aged 101.
What a wonderful article, Roy. It brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing. Nan is a beautiful woman.

Hey Jill, hope you had a great weekend. Nan’s story is one of the loveliest I’ve ever come across, and that’s from an old cynic.

Morning Dianne, it’s a captivating story indeed. I don’t for a moment expect that Nan considers herself anything other than ordinary.

Begging for a film to be made Jenny. You can pick up Nan’s Occupation Diaries on Amazon – again remarkable that they were in a box for 40 years and she thought nothing of them.

I so enjoy reading articles like this – a short synopsis of a long amazing life. I think someone should write a book about Nan’s entire life, don’t you? She’s absolutely beautiful.

Yes Pam, it’s a story tailor-made for a book or film. I’ve no doubt Nan’s family have an endless stock of stories concerning her in addition to what is already well-known. Who knows, one day…

Happy Birthday to Nan, she’s looking great, I think all those friends and family and that very full life must have a part to play in that.

She certainly have a strong family – I believe the dairy farm where Nan grew up (Homestead, St Peter) is still in Le Ruez hands. Must be something in the milk.

Thanks Kath. I believe Nan’s mildly surprised to find that she’s 100 and still tries to do everything she ever did 80 years ago 🙂 Hope you’re feeling better now.

Such a lovely story, Roy. I’m glad that you keep coming back to it with more nuggets for us. She seems like such a firecracker, and the boys certainly seemed to like her.
That’s a lot of birthday cards! Hope she didn’t have to open those all at once. ; )

Thanks Britt, it’s an amazing story. I was racing against Sue (Nan’s niece, the journalist who wrote the piece) on Thursday evening. Sue’s turned 60 now but is still better than me and many others. Must be something in the milk – the Le Ruez’s are an old Jersey dairy farming family 🙂
