Suddenly accelerating into top gear as Saturday’s opening ceremony races towards us. Competitors are jetting in – early arrivals included the Faroes and Greenland – and the months of paper planning are becoming a reality.logo

Howard Davis Park is serving as the Games village as well as hosting the opening and closing ceremonies. The giant stage has been built and provides the focal point of the week-long entertainment. It will be left in place to accommodate Spandau Ballet who perform the day after the Games finishes.

But already there are logistical difficulties. The thousands of visitors are not all arriving on neatly-packaged charter flights and the Meet & Greet and Transport teams are having to think on their feet. And, worryingly, the flight of the Falklands team – the team I’m looking after – to England has been delayed due to bad weather in the South Atlantic. Fingers crossed that they get away before too long.
