I love the Fisherman’s Chapel Roy, and Portelet Bay looks beautiful.

Yay! I love Roy’s Jersey tours! Great photos. So many beautiful old buildings, which we don’t get to see here in the States. Le sigh…
St. Brelade’s Bay Hotel looks like an amazing spot to hang out.

Britt, Jersey is a place that is so underrated – most notably by the locals. If they would open their eyes and see and feel the beauty, the history, then maybe they would be less cantankerous. And most of those that leave find their ay back eventually 🙂
Personally I’ve never visited St Brelade’s Bay Hotel – it was one of the many commandeered by the Germans during the Occupation. It’s very nice now apparently.

Really nice pictures, Roy. I liked learning about the connection to Newfoundland, where I briefly lived some years ago. Everyone wanted a piece of the cod fishery in its heyday, all of which would only lead to its eventual collapse which remains to this day.

Thanks Janna. Yes it was a thriving industry in its day, and supported a big shipbuilding industry in Jersey. I gather that, as well as the Channel Islands, many other European countries still have little enclaves around the Newfoundland coast.

Roy, you’ve missed one very important house, the old white Noirmont farm house, if you visit in May they have a roadside stall selling new potatoes. Such a shame seeing it unkempt And just used for storage, Jersy needs to get its act together and restore these old places so they become an asset to the island and not an eyesore.

Not sure I know that one. Indeed a pity if an old property is being let go, but if it was of architectural importance I’m sure it would have a listing. Can you say exactly where it is at Noirmont? Thanks for the comment 🙂

Thanks Julie – yes, very much an ‘Olde Tyme’ little street harking back to the days of Jersey’s old seafaring merchants who lived there.

A great sense of Jersey here… cobble stones, lovely beaches, stone buildings. Portlet manor does seem a bit run down but sometimes demolition benefits developers more than a community. Fran said to me recently “You don’t follow Roy!?” Now I follow, though I’m terribly undisciplined in looking at my reader. Also thanks for the link to the wonderful Irish mythological tale for valentines. More true about love, than merely roses and chocolates.

Hi Bruce and welcome. St Brelade was an easy start. I’ll have to work harder with some of the smaller parishes. Portelet Hotel at least is to revert to a private dwelling (whence it originally came) rather than an apartment block, so that’s a blessing.

What a wonderful slide show, Roy. I recognized many of the places from my visit. I don’t remember the church with 14th c. frescoes–I bet there’s a story there! Thanks so much for sharing this.

Hi Naomi! Yes, St Brelade was an easy start – glad you enjoyed it. Yes, the Fisherman’s Chapel wall paintings were only uncovered last century which has allowed them to be restored and preserved properly.
