I commend to you this post from Jean Tubridy from the blog ‘Social Bridge’ and in particular the poem by Will Allen Drumgoole.
SOCIAL BRIDGE ~ Jean Tubridy connecting with you from Ireland
There are all sorts of bridges that make me sigh and I want to thank David Millington-Croft from the magnificent There is No Cavalry for mentioning the Bridge of Sighs in a comment at the start of this Festival of Bridges.

Lovely post, Roy…thanks for sharing! I remember driving across the Golden Gate Bridge in dense fog…very frightening.

Hi Jill and thank you. Being a wuss with heights I doubt if I’d drive across it under any circumstances!

Yes Andrea, Jean has caught the imagination with this theme. I’ve submitted a couple of Jersey bridges – fingers crossed that one or both make the required standard.

Hope you’re well Roy, apologies for lack of reading your blog, been busy so far this year and my eyes are torturing me. Will make an honest effort of stopping by more!

Hey Billie, nice to hear from you. No, sore eyes don’t make for easy reading but I know you’ll accept none of that sympathy business 🙂 I’ve never been to Venice though I watched an awesome film set there, Don’t Look Now with Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie. Haunting, worth a watch if you get the chance.

I remember seeing the film years ago and the story rather freaked me out 😀 It is a very beautiful city, especially if you know how it was built (on large, upside-down tree trunks smacked deep in the lagoon). I definitely recommend going before it sinks too deep in the lagoon, it’s just stunning. Do go outside of the carnival/summer season when there’s less tourists, as the huge amount of them really make it difficult seeing it in a relaxed way.
