From Valentine’s Day 1981 to Valentine’s Day 1900. Approaching the former Harcourt Street Station in Dublin the locomotive The Wicklow failed to respond to the brakes. The train ploughed through the buffers and then the outer wall of the station. No one was killed though the driver had an arm amputated later.
The story and the iconic picture are from the excellent blog Come Here To Me.

Hi Roy, just stArted following your blog having found it when I googled something Jersey related. I worked on Harcourt St in the 90’s and this station was and is, I think, a trendy wine bar. Great picture. May the stardust victims rest in peace too. Good reminder y’day of obvious injustice. Thanks. Clo in St. H.

Thanks Clo. At least they’ve not knocked it down for apartments like the rest of old Dublin. Thanks for your interest. Roy
