…coming up. Tomorrow (Sat) a spin with Blue Islands Airline over to The Land That Time Forgot aka Guernsey. The occasion is a British Athletics League Div.4 fixture, being hosted by Guernsey, which should see Channel Islands AC clinch promotion to Div.3 together with league leaders City of Glasgow. Channel Islands AC is an amalgam of Jersey Spartan AC and Guernsey Island AAC. Unsurprisingly this alliance has proved more durable in UK competition than other short-lived attempts by the individual islands. When Andrew Winnie became Jersey’s ADO in 2001 he cut through the inter-island hostility like no one else has, and the athletes of both islands now have access to regular good level competition. The times have long gone, thankfully, when our top athletes competed for the likes of Team Solent who offered exactly nothing in return for us training up their athletes for them.

We’re sending over a party of athletes to complement Guernsey’s contingent (they are stronger at male senior level) but also several bods like me to help run the meeting efficiently – we hope.

Another early start on Sunday for a 10k race in memory of Spartan Jayson Lee who died not so long ago at a sadly young age. It’s a flat anti-clockwise course around St Clement and Grouville though I fear my latest plod-like training will mean I’ll struggle to break 50mins against a PB set earlier this year of 47.52.
